God sommer med ny MIKE by DHI nettside!

Klikk her

Poland - Wroclaw water distribution and collection system |
DHI (Polish and Czech offices) has
signed a contract with the Wroclaw city water operator for building models of
water distribution and collection system. The models will cover the entire city
and help the utility in their daily operational activities as well as answer
questions related to future city development. The water distribution model will
be used mostly for pressure evaluation, water age, pollution propagation and
chlorine concentration analysis. The sewer system model should help in analysis
of weirs performance - inform about simulated number and volume of overflows,
sediment influence on network performance and definition of flooding prevention
program in the area of main collectors. Within the contract DHI will supply a
number of MIKE URBAN licenses accompanied by a dedicated training course. DHI
will also be responsible for executing a comprehensive monitoring program and
delivery of an equipment package (flowmeters, rain gauges) necessary for the
measuring campaign. The project will be delivered in cooperation with a
GIS-specialized company WINUEL S.A. (Sygnity Group).

Southeast Lee County project wins CNU Charter Award |
Each year, the Congress for New Urbanism's Charter Awards
recognize projects across the world that best embody and advance the principles
of the Charter of the New Urbanism. As
selected by a jury of leading urbanists, honorees set the gold standard for
urban design and development and serve as powerful examples for future
development.
The Southeast Lee County (Florida) Integrated Planning Project by Dover Kohl and
Partners was recognized for its emphasis on the entirety of the built and
natural environment -- from the function and sustainability of regions to the
fine-grain architectural details that strengthen people's ties to a place over
time.
The project area hosts rural neighbourhoods, lime rock mines, and active farms.
The land also contains valuable ecological and hydrological features including
panther habitat and public supply wells. Scenario planning was used to identify
patterns to accommodate growing populations and to protect endangered natural
systems and agriculture. In this instance, the different scenarios were
generated to visualize alternative futures and to analyze factors such as the
effect of mine placement and quantities of lime rock removed from the aquifer,
the effect of land use patterns in residential qualities of life, the protection
of sensitive native habitats on the ecosystem, the potential for public transit,
and impact on traffic. The hydrological impacts of these scenarios were modelled
by DHI Inc. using eg MIKE SHE to evaluate the specific effects of the scenarios
on surface water hydrology and groundwater levels. The results of the modelling
were prepared as illustrative plans for the entire project area to help the
public quickly visualize the effect of large-scale policy decisions from an
aerial view. For more information on the project, visit http://www.cnu.org/node/3401

IfmMIKE11 2.0 is now available |
A new version of the coupling interface between
FEFLOW and MIKE11 is now available for download
Since 2005 the coupling interface IfmMIKE11
has been available. Its functionality covers the exchange of boundary
condition data during runtime and the synchronization of both temporal
and spatial discretization. The system has been applied to both simple
benchmark cases and complex field conditions. In 2006, the module was
successfully extended for the coupling of polder areas and
forelands. This option is also
available in the present version of the module. Furthermore, this
version includes a better representation of the exchange area between
rivers and groundwater body and supports the coupling of mass transport
processes.

The most important new features of IfmMIKE11 version 2.0 are:
- The coupling of polder areas as well as floodplains is fully
supported. Using this option, it is also possible to represent the
interaction between lakes and groundwater in a more convenient manner
- Constraints are automatically set within areas representing polders
or floodplains
- Constraints can be set automatically for regular branches
- The exchange area between rivers and groundwater is now defined by
the cross sections of MIKE11, not by the FEFLOW mesh. This gives a much
more realistic representation of the exchange processes
- Mass transport coupling is fully supported.
The new version also supports the use of FEFLOW 6. Mass
transport coupling is available with MIKE11 2009, SP4.

Tips & Hints |
MIKE URBAN WD: Enkle regler og/eller regelbaserte kontroller |
|

City of Waterloo to evaluate storm water management
alternatives |
During the past 5 years the City of Waterloo,
Ontario has been receiving an increasing number of reports of localized
flooding of residential properties and roadways in some of the older
neighborhoods of the city. In one particular area, a sag in the road way
and low-lying adjacent properties have resulted in significant flood
damage to several homes and pooling of water in excess of 1 m deep
across several lots.
Using the results of the integrated 1D and 2D urban flood modeling of
the study area, the City was able to clearly identify the only viable
solution to the flooding problem, and to effectively communicate these
findings to the public. As result, the City’s engineering staff has
recommended an accelerated schedule for the permanent solution rather
than risking time, budget and public backlash by pursuing ineffective
short-term measures. Want to read more? click here |

MIKE by DHI kurs |

In recent years DHI and our international offices and agents have experienced a significant increase in the
interest for the MIKE by DHI training courses. Today thousands of current and potential MIKE users attend DHI training
courses worldwide every year.
The standard MIKE courses are modular and allow you to build up your expertise so as to match the requirements of
your job. Likewise, they assist you, as a manager, in building and upgrading your team's productivity and modelling skills
and expertise in a quick and cost-effective way. The courses take you through the theory behind the products. However, the
main focus is on practical skills, hands-on exercises and on teaching you how to get the most out of the MIKE by DHI
